Wild plantain leaves in Hmar Hills

The Hmar people living in Hmar Hills use wild plantain leaves for serving food during community feasts on occasions like Christmas, marriage and cultural events as it is easily available and economical.

The plantain shown here is locally known as ‘changkel’. The tribe also prepares curry from the flower and the trunk.

Wild plantain are found in large numbers in Hmar Hills.
